A unique retail and catering concept celebrates its premiere!
The Schrannenhalle, a former granary in the heart of Munich directly at its famous Viktualienmarkt food market, reopened in October 2011 as a classic market hall and a gourmet's paradise. The 1,300-square-metre sales floor of Käfer in der Schranne supplies fresh delicatessen goods to enjoy on the spot or take home. The market stocks the full range of Käfer's popular Delicatessen Markets, comprising over 2,000 top-quality culinary products in addition to exclusive wares from the immediate vicinity: hand-made pasta from a small Munich producer, flour from Munich's last city-centre miller, and other specialities from suppliers in Munich.
The ground floor offers the opportunity to stroll from counter to counter, tasting delicious mouthfuls on the way: toast and bread with gourmet spreads and toppings, flavourful salads, light soups, fresh cheeses and sausage with oven-fresh Käfer breads, speciality coffees and cakes and gateaux. All products can naturally be purchased to take home.
On the first floor, the Market Kitchen serves dishes inspired by Bavarian, French and Italian regional cuisine using fresh locally sourced ingredients. Guests can watch the bustling market from a comfortable vantage-point overlooking the hall. Our chef Stefan Meindl has the philosophy that the recipes must be down-to-earth and the dishes authentic and pristine. Wine pairings selected to harmonise with the food and a range of daily specials create an inviting setting with a special atmosphere.
