Vierschimmelsaal (Four Greys Room)
The Imperial dining-room
The painting at the centre of the ceiling, which originally gave the Vierschimmelsaal its name, was lost. Once this room was where the Emperor dined, surrounded by the highest dignitaries of his court, when in residence; the lost painting depicted Apollo in his sun chariot drawn by four white horses.
Today, paintings by the Dutch artist Paolo Fiammingo cover the walls. Although not part of the original design of the hall, they harmoniously enhance the sumptuous atmosphere.
218 sqm in area, the Vierschimmelsaal – like the Kaisersaal – is reserved for state occasions of the Bavarian Government and only available for the highest-ranking corporate events.
