The Imperial Residence in Munich was the seat of government and the residence of Bavaria's dukes, princes and kings from 1508 to 1918. Originally built as a fortress, it gradually evolved into a splendid royal palace with magnificent halls and courtyards, offering a unique blend of Renaissance, Baroque, rococo and classicist styles. Some of the lavishly renovated rooms are used by the Bavarian Government on state occasions and also serve as a truly regal setting for high-calibre events.
